Chelsea wins Premier League

Chelsea regained the Premier League title on Sunday with a 8-0 win over Wigan. Didier Drogba scored three times, as the team took the title away from Manchester United.

The title for Chelsea was their third in six years. The last time they won the title was in 2005 and 2006 when they were headed by Jose Mourinho. This was head coach Carlo Ancelotti’s first season with Chelsea.Chelsea will now look for their first league and FA Cup Double by beating Portsmouth on Saturday’s Final at Wembley. In other games Held and Liverpool played to a scoreless tie, while Portsmouth conceited an injury time winner to Diniyar Bilyaletdinov to lose 1-0 at Everton.

Other games on Sunday included Manchester City tying West Ham 1-1. Blackburn beat Ashton Villa 1-0. Bolton beat Birmingham 2-1 and Wolves downed Sunderland 2-1.

With Manchester United not winning the title this season, for the fourth start season, several questions were asked around the team. Manager Alex Ferguson went on record questioning whether his mentally strong enough throughout the season. Despite winning their final game of the season, ManU ended one point behind Chelsea; after they pounded Wigan 8-0.

Manchester United finished second despite spending just under a quarter of the $118 that Real Madrid spent for Ronaldo last June. Also, in Sunday’s finale, Manchester United star and England’s star strike Wayne Rooney left the game with a groin injury. The World Cup is just one month away, as the country opens up against the United States.

The United States had some recent news as well, as midfielder Stuart Holden returned from a broken leg for Bolton. Holden left the Houston Dynamo to sign with Bolton, but then broke his leg when playing against the Netherlands back in March. Also Oghchi Onyewu continues to miss time for AC Milan with a left knee injury. Both players hope to be ready for the United States team when they begin pre-World Cup workouts on May 17th.
